Discipline

DISCIPLINE

From a very young age all of us have got accustomed to the word, Discipline. We all have been repeatedly hearing this word from our parents, teachers and our elders. Many of us must have been punished for being indiscipline. It may be anything from violating rules, disrespecting your elders, being unruly, being naughty, trying to make a mutiny with your friends, being disorderly etc. But all these happen when we are at a young age, because during this time are always supervised by our elders. Time and again we are reminded of the importance of following a discipline way of life. But at that age we feel like revolting and doing things our own way. The moment we do things which are not appropriate, we somehow get caught and we are brought to our senses. All this is well and good when we are young. But once we become adults, no one scolds or tries to correct us of our becoming indiscipline. Indiscipline way of life ends up with dire consequences. The importance of discipline and how it influences our life can only be realized if you analyse the life of people who are failures and people who are successful. I am not referring to failures which can be considered as stepping stones to success. I am talking about failures as human beings. A person who follows a minimum discipline in life will be better off than a person who has followed no discipline. Again, discipline does not only mean following rules, it means also a lot of other which will need another exercise of the mind and hand.

Significances of Literacy Day

Significances of Literacy Day

Recently we celebrated International Literacy Day on 8th September, 2019. We all know why it is celebrated. The 8th September was declared as International Literacy Day in 1966. From 1967 onwards we have been religiously celebrating it every year. So, this is the 54th year of its celebration. It’s focus was to create awareness of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights. It is only through literacy that we know our social and individual rights and also for development. The dictionary meaning of literacy is the ability to read and write. If this is the aim of UNESCO then the figure of achievement is perfect. But on the higher level can we all agree to this kind of literacy. From the feminist point of view this kind of literacy is not the literacy which is successful in imbibing good value system respecting others and women in particular. The UNESCO and if not UNESCO then some other organization should seriously think of literacy which will really change the scenario regarding women, especially in India. It should be the real kind of education which will ingest sense of justice and equality in all of us. The so called privileged position of a very limited percentage of women in society does not necessarily mirror the plight of the whole and so it cannot be generalized. Today also, there is discrimination between a male and a female child in many families. The birth of a boy child gives more pleasure to the family than the birth of a girl child.

Another important aspect is that the cases of rape have not lessened over the years. Women are still victims of the dowry tradition. Though the law has granted a daughter’s right to ancestral property, but still a father can deprive his daughter of his self-acquired property. We are all awaiting especially women for the age of enlightenment when justice and equality will prevail and stand over everything else.

Visions after NRC publication

Immediate impact:
1. Many people will be happy to see their names in NRC.
2. Those, who could not find their names would keep them quiet and move for next steps so that the fixed 120 days could be of good use.
3. Of course some leaders will use the card differently.
4. The civil society should keep watch of unsocial activities.
5. Everbody must maintain peace, harmony and discipline.

Long term impact:
1. The Nation as well as the state of Assam will get first NRC of its own.
2. Every body should feel proud of NRC.
3. The national and regional sentiments will turn positively.
4. The identity crisis  will be  addressed properly which will minimize differences.
